Half-marathon might need to wait.
Half-marathon might need to wait.

What’s New?

So let’s try something different for these updates, instead of sitting down sometime after the 1st of the month I’m writing this in bits and pieces scattered over the month, whenever I have a free moment and feel like spending it in front of the computer instead of at the gym, or playing video games, or whatever else.

Market has been on a tear for a while now, awesome for me and my portfolio. I’ve written about the dangers of market timing before, and it’s refreshing (but not unexpected) to be validated. Over the past year, several bloggers have written about how the market is over-valued, difficulty finding investments, that sort of thing. Some went as far as to liquidate some or all of their accounts to wait out a crash. Must be a hard pill to swallow missing out on a roughly 25% (including dividends) return in the past year, TSX or S&P 500, pick your poison.

Also, Mass Effect, Torment: Tides of Numenara, and Logan all come out this month. It’s like Christmas for nerds.

Anyway, great start to the year, let’s see how the rest fares.

Finances

This months total: $1,750.02

Another great month, can’t complain at all. A lot of big dividend hikes lately too, things are going well overall. Nothing really changing in my strategy, no new thoughts, earn money, invest, rinse, repeat. If I had been “smart” last year, like so many bloggers were, I’d have been out some $100k in gains. Dumb is the new smart.

A very impressive total for the month of Feb. by any measure. That’s a real sum that can cover a boatload of monthly expenses. I commend you for staying invested in the market and continuing to make buys/reinvest, etc. It’s my mantra to invest every single month no matter what the market conditions are and I have been doing so ever since I became a DGI. Being a long term dividend investor means you will have to go through some rough periods but trying to time those rough periods is impossible so just stay invested, continue to invest and collect those dividends in the meantime.

I did, didn’t write about them. At the moment, options still don’t inhabit a core part of my investment strategy, more of a “play money” thing. I could spend more time reading and testing out strategies more thoroughly, but I feel right now if I’m going to spend that time it’s better spent getting ahead at work where the payoff is realistically larger monetarily.

You are killing it!!! Market timing is such a fools game and definitely not something that I’m interested in trying to do b/c I’m sure I’d lose. That’s awesome that you are able to make $25k in forward dividends. Looks like it’s going to be a good year for you!!!

Thanks πŸ™‚ Not my thing either! Maybe a few, very elite people can make it work, but the rest of us should probably steer clear.

Nice February! February is generally a “slow” month for everyone, but to get a “living wage” out of it speak volume. I’m always amazed how dividend in $10s-$300 can add up to thousands quite quickly.

    Cheers!

Is Feb the slow month for most people? I think the March cycle is ours, but let’s wait until the end of the month and see πŸ™‚

Further proof it is about ‘time in the market’. No one can predict when the collapse will happen but stay invested and you will be rewarded. History has shown it is better almost every time. Great income, I am jealous πŸ™‚ but I am happy it is going great for you. I am trying to get up to your income level and I am making good progress. I am looking forward to seeing next month for you . Thanks for sharing.

It’s getting better, still a lot of pain if you try to bend it too far.

Yeah I’m jazzed about crossing that milestone, definitely cause for celebration!
